the electric bass is an instrument with very little exploration. it has relations to the electric guitar as well as its intimidating cousin the upright bass. what pulls me to the electric bass is the thickness of the strings and the versatility it gives me when i have the pickups there with it. this leads me to have a variety of sounds where i can bounce from electronics as well as using the strings the way they were “intended” to be use. in fact i find my solo playing to mostly try to exist somewhere between those two spots on the electric bass. somewhere between the electronic aspect as well as the aspect of the strings itself, using the bass for lines and other forms of playing. i want to achieve the aspect of bouncing between the two of these fluidly. this is what has inspired me the most musically, extreme contradictions. acoustic/electronic, soft/loud, spacious/dense, fast/slow. while this recording i find is a basic version of what that means to me i think it’s a good start for a future of solo bass playing.
